Bitcoin addresses and confirmations explained

A Bitcoin address identifies where BTC can be received. Bitlok Wallet uses SegWit receiving addresses that begin with bc1q. These are native Bitcoin mainnet addresses, not BSC or Ethereum token addresses.

Use the right network

Send native BTC only to a Bitcoin address. Do not send BTC to an Ethereum 0x address or a BNB Smart Chain address. Likewise, a token named Bitcoin on another network is not the same as native Bitcoin.

Before sending, compare the first and last characters of the copied address with the address shown in your wallet.

Why confirmations matter

After broadcasting, a Bitcoin transaction first appears as pending in the network. Miners include it in a block, then every following block adds another confirmation.

The receiving wallet may show a transaction before it has several confirmations. Exchanges and services can set their own confirmation requirement, so delivery time varies with network conditions and the fee selected.

Quick safety checklist

  • Use a bc1q Bitcoin address for native BTC.
  • Check the destination network before sending.
  • Allow time for confirmations; do not resend a pending transaction.
  • Use a block explorer only with the transaction ID or public address—not your recovery phrase.
