What is a non-custodial crypto wallet?

A non-custodial wallet is software that lets you access crypto assets using keys controlled by you. It does not mean the app holds your coins; blockchain assets remain on their networks, while your wallet proves that you can authorize transactions.

Your wallet controls access

A wallet creates addresses and signs transactions. The public address is safe to share when receiving funds. The recovery phrase and private keys are secret credentials that control access to those addresses.

With a non-custodial wallet, you—not Bitlok or any other company—hold those credentials. This gives you control, but also makes careful backup essential.

What self-custody changes

There is no password-reset team that can restore a lost recovery phrase. Anyone who obtains it can recreate your wallet on another device and move funds.

For that reason, verify every address and transaction before approval. Blockchain transactions are generally irreversible once confirmed.

Quick safety checklist

  • Keep the recovery phrase offline and private.
  • Never paste it into a website, form, chat, or support message.
  • Use the app PIN and fingerprint lock on your own device.
  • Confirm the receiving address and network before every send.
